Why lift correctly and how do I do it?

According to NHS choices one of the biggest causes of low back injury is incorrect lifting technique when performing manual handling. By adopting a better lifting technique the likelihood of low back pain and injury can be reduced.

At the Spine and Sports Injury clinic (SSi) Thanet Kent, covering Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, we promote self-help measures to reduce the risk of injury or better manage pain complaints that may already exist. Using the correct lifting technique can certainly be a huge aid to achieving this. Back pain has many sources and causes, with incorrect lifting being considered one of them. By improving the way you lift an object the aim is to reduce the amount of strain being placed on the low back structures, there by allowing you to perform the action with a reduced risk of injury.

See our Lifting Technique Advice Sheet to see how you can modify your method of lifting so that you can better protect against the risk of injury.
